The City of St. Louis Department of Health (DOH) has demonstrated a commitment to increase the standard of living in every community within their footprint. We believe that the resources the Link Market (LINK) provides align with DOH’s priorities and can well complement its community-based initiatives, especially its Food Rx program. To this end, we are joining forces to empower communities to make better decisions around nutritious eating.
Through the Food Rx program, we will work in coordination with DOH to identify and register a minimum of 100 participants for free accounts at linkmarket.org. Registrants may purchase healthy, affordable food at linkmarket.org and receive free delivery to Homer G. Phillips Apartments (2601 Whittier St. St. Louis, MO 63113), Greater Pentecostal Church of God (6080 W. Florissant Ave. St. Louis, MO 63136), Affinia Healthcare (2220 Lemp Ave. St. Louis, MO 63104), Melvin Theater (2912 Chippewa St. St. Louis, MO 63118). To incentivize shopping on our site, we will provide vouchers for grocery bundles]. Participants with limited or no access to a computer or the internet will not be excluded from the program. Instead, they will be able to call in their order and pay at delivery using cash, credit, debit, or Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). We will also offer free, interactive cooking demonstrations at either location so that participants can learn new skills in the kitchen and find healthier ways to prepare the meals they love.
Throughout the program period, we will continuously track registration and utilization including frequency of purchases, quantity of orders, trends in shopping behaviors, and attendance in cooking demonstrations. When successful, we look forward to continuing the program into the future.
